Studio 65: fifty years of the future

Curated by Maria Cristina Didero

The first great monographic exhibition in Turin dedicated to the 50 years of activity of Studio65, collective emblem of Pop Design Made in Italy. GAM – Turin modern and contemporary art museum ; 27 November 2015 – 28 February 2016.

First stop in Italy of the exhibition “The merchant of clouds. Studio65: 50 years of Future” celebrating half century of Studio65, one of the protagonists of Italian Pop Design, founded in Turin in 1965 by a group of future architects gathered around the figure of Franco Audrito, who wanted to fight, exactly during those revolutionary years, the prevailing conformism of the “modern” style with new creative ideas as weapons, in the name of a so- called radical design.

For the first time, the exhibition brings together projects and objects by Studio65, the most part produced by Gufram, a historic brand that since the 1960s has made an important contribution to the creativity of Italian design. And due to the close relationship with the Turin studio, Gufram announces, during this exhibition, the celebrations for its fiftieth birthday, that is occuring in 2016.

To celebrate Studio65 innovative and radical contribution to design, Gufram presents a preview of a new special limited edition of Bocca sofa, an emblematic project of the collaboration between the studio and the brand.

“The ability to imagine and transform elements of furnishings into icons of our time – curator Maria Cristina Didero says – is moved by a deeply irreverent, revolutionary and iconoclastic nature that characterized the activity of Studio65 for over half of a century since its birth, and that today reviews the past achievements to look to the future.”
